In this interview, we spoke with Hanna Matseva, CEO of Accounting Outsourcing at UHY Prostir. Over more than 15 years at the company, Hanna has risen from assistant to head of the practice.
We talked about her professional journey, career growth at UHY Prostir and key achievements — and about supporting the team, the atmosphere and plans for the future.
Hanna, tell us your UHY Prostir story. How did you join the company, and what were the turning points in your career?
I have been with the company since 2007. After finishing my bachelor’s degree I decided to look for a job alongside my master’s studies, so I could put the theory into practice. I sent my CV to UHY Prostir, passed the assessment and joined the team.
I was originally invited to join as an audit assistant, but as it turned out I landed straight in the accounting outsourcing department. I worked in accounting for a while, and later had the chance to take part in an audit as an assistant auditor. That is when I realized outsourcing interested me most, and that this was the field I wanted to grow in.
A year later, the chief accountant responsible for all the outsourcing projects left. The director, Oleksandr Koinov, suggested I take on the role, with professional support arranged both inside the company and externally, from an outside expert. As the company developed — the client base growing, the team expanding — the role gradually evolved into Head of the Accounting Outsourcing Department. And in 2025 I became CEO of the accounting practice.
Which projects in your work at UHY Prostir are you proudest of?
Over the years there have been countless projects and challenges that the team and I worked through together. Among them: organizing and supporting the accounting processes of large international companies, coming through tax audits and independent audits, and trips abroad to align consolidated reporting processes for international groups.
But my greatest pride is not the professional results alone. Today, UHY Prostir is a place where a friendly atmosphere, mutual support and opportunity flourish — for people taking their first steps in the profession and for experienced experts alike. It also matters that we keep moving forward: adopting modern approaches, automation and innovation, including the use of artificial intelligence in business processes.
Have there been situations where you supported colleagues or clients beyond the work itself?
Yes — for me that is a natural part of being on a team. I try to notice colleagues’ needs not just in their work but in everyday communication and support. For ethical reasons I cannot share specific examples, but I always try to be there in difficult moments — to listen, to advise or simply to be supportive.
Which qualities do you value most in your colleagues, and how do you support your team — especially the junior specialists?
What I value most is responsibility, open communication, empathy, kindness, the ability to work in a team and flexibility in the face of change. Those qualities create an atmosphere of trust and mutual support.
When I see a junior colleague getting tired or losing their way, I try to talk the situation through with them. Together we look for solutions, break the complex task into smaller steps and set priorities. That eases the sense of overload and restores a feeling of control. I am always ready to help with the work itself, and where needed I might suggest a rest or extra training to shore up the weaker areas. At the same time I point out the colleague’s strengths and look for positive ways forward — sometimes even a change of role.
What is next for you — in your career and beyond work?
I want more time for learning, to keep developing personally. Professionally, my goal is to see the company’s ambitious strategic plans through: scaling up, entering international markets and rolling out digital solutions for clients. And to keep supporting colleagues — sharing my experience and helping them grow.
